Roshen Concert Hall
Inspired by the flowing lines of musical notation

Introduction
Snøhetta’s design proposal for the Roshen Concert Hall in Kiev, Ukraine, titled "The Grand Stave," harmonizes the existing urban landscape by bridging two distinct levels – the street and the park. Inspired by the flowing lines of musical notation, the design draws a parallel between the treble and bass clefs, blending the natural landscape and architectural form into a unified composition.

A dynamic yet rational expression
The concert hall’s monolithic volume features sleek stone façades with horizontal openings, creating a dynamic yet rational expression. The design integrates the site’s natural movement, with an exterior amphitheater marking the new main entrance to the park. This outdoor space serves as a gathering point, ideal for informal performances and community events.
Inside, the foyer along the south façade acts as an extension of the landscape, seamlessly connecting the street, park, and the interior spaces. It serves as a bridge between the public realm and the various functions within the building, ensuring fluid transitions between interior and exterior spaces.

A versatile space
At the heart of the project is the 1600-seat Main Hall, situated at park level. More than just a performance venue, it is a versatile space that connects with the park, allowing daylight and open views. Designed for flexibility, the hall can be transformed for local artistic and recreational activities, providing a cultural hub for the community. With a flat-floor option and state-of-the-art acoustics, it balances functionality with visual and auditory excellence.
Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, the project has been put on hold. Despite these challenges, the Roshen Concert Hall remains a vision of architectural and cultural fusion, placing the community at the center of its design.
