The Abrahamic religions in one unified space

Project Cordoba consists of a mosque, a church, a synagogue, and a shared educational center, bringing together the Abrahamic religions in one unified space. Despite the distinct configurations and programmatic needs of each prayer space, Snøhetta’s design offers a holistic and balanced exterior where all three faiths are equally represented, coexisting peacefully under one architectural form. This approach embodies the values of tolerance and acceptance, central to the vision of the Abrahamic Family House.

The architectural concept is anchored by three interlocking circular forms—each representing the mosque, church, and synagogue—that converge around a central outdoor courtyard. This shared courtyard serves as a communal space for all faiths, a meeting point for dialogue, exchange, and acceptance. It forms a serene transition between the vibrant exterior life of Abu Dhabi and the quiet, introspective atmosphere of the individual prayer spaces.

Thoughtful use of materials

Once inside, visitors experience spaces that are uniquely configured according to each faith’s traditions. The design of the mosque, church, and synagogue celebrates their distinct spiritual identities through the thoughtful use of materials such as stone, rammed earth, and wood, creating an intimate and respectful environment for worship.

Project Cordoba stands as a powerful architectural expression of the core values of the Abrahamic Family House—promoting peace, unity, and the shared human experience. It is a space where diversity is embraced, and understanding is fostered, symbolizing a hopeful vision for the future.
