Our concept integrates Stockholm municipality’s regulations for façades and building volumes with the client's vision of giving a new urban arena for the city. The design features two L-shaped, orthogonal buildings that frame an organic inner courtyard and podium level, establishing a new meeting place in Stockholm’s rapidly developing Hagastaden area.

The basement floor will house a sports center for KFUM Central, while the ground floor will be filled with restaurants, retail and culture. On the top floors, there will be offices and laboratories for the life science industry.

Adapting to Hagastaden’s character

A passage extends diagonally through the project reinforcing the city's green network and forming the heart of the project; a spacious, publicly accessible inner courtyard. This rounded courtyard is designed as an inviting and organic space that contrasts with the structured urban surroundings. The courtyard landscape rises above a sports arena, integrating entrances for KFUM Central and enhancing accessibility to the upper floors.

The volumes of the building step up gradually from west to east adapting to Hagastaden’s character, with height increasing towards the center.

Vibrant social hub

KFUM Central's core facilities, such as a gymnasium, sports hall, fitness center, and locker rooms, are located underground. Parking and logistics are positioned in the darker, less active parts of the site. The upper buildings accommodate commercial offices, with flexibility for laboratories and healthcare functions.

The podium is the meeting place and acts as a vibrant social hub, connecting the organization with the surrounding Life Science community. It features cafés, restaurants, co-working spaces, and an amphitheater, offering areas for relaxation, events, and informal gatherings. The design ensures accessibility through ramps and terraces, integrating both indoor and outdoor environments.

The roof terraces incorporate green spaces, solar panels, and seating areas, maximizing both environmental benefits and usability. The landscape includes natural stone, light-reflecting surfaces, and permeable materials to manage stormwater efficiently.
