Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library: Construction Update

The Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library comprises a winding, slanting structure built into the rolling Badlands of North Dakota, with a central passageway that cuts through the center of the building.

The final structure elements for the sloping roof structure, which utilizes a mass-timber and steel hybrid system for support, has officially been completed. Elements of the mass-timber structure will be left exposed, most notably, in the massive breezeway that will serve as the primary circulation between the two main indoor spaces.

One of the most visually striking aspects of the TRPL’s design is the finished rammed earth walls—an architectural choice that speaks to the natural beauty and resourceful spirit of the North Dakota landscape. These unique walls add an organic, earthy quality to the library, perfectly aligning with its sustainable design philosophy.
