Snøhetta vying for the job of designing a new headquarters for NRK
The Norwegian public broadcaster NRK is leaving their old and iconic 1935 headquarters at Marienlyst, and has launched a design competition for their new premises at Normannsløkka, Ensjø.
Three teams have been selected to compete:
- Nordic Office of Architecture with Arup Architecture and Rodeo Arkitekter,
- BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) with Aart architects
- Team Snøhetta + Link Arkitektur
The teams will provide anonymized solution proposals to be evaluated by a jury.
NRK has set strict requirements for sustainability, and the ambition is for the building to become a model project in Futurebuilt.
"NRK is one of the most important institutions in the development of Norway as a nation. Their mandate related to freedom of expression and public education makes the project of creating a new head office in Oslo extra important for Snøhetta and Link. Our new media reality requires the best possible platform for the employees, but also a building that lowers the threshold for interacting with the city and the public. Not least, it is also crucial that projects like this cut greenhouse gas emissions, and it is fantastic that NRK has set such high climate goals," says Snøhetta co-founder Kjetil Trædal Thorsen.
