Snøhetta, Camille Norment Studio and WSP through to next round in Ørestad competition
A total of three teams have been selected to proceed to the final phase of the competition Byens Scene (The city's stage), which eventually will result in three urban spaces that integrate art and landscape architecture at the large venues DR Koncerthuset, Bella Arena and Royal Arena on the island of Amager in Copenhagen. Together, the three concert stages form the largest concert area in the Nordic region.
The proposals The Impact, Bellscape and Byens Scener - Alice in Ørestad, will now be developed over the coming months, so that a final winner will be announced before the summer of 2025.
The proposal Bellscape, developed by Snøhetta, Camille Norment Studio and WSP Danmark A/S, is a myriad of bells, both as soundscapes in urban spaces and physical bells in different designs. The bell is part of a new urban instrument, where structure, wind and acoustics contribute sensually to the expression of the urban space. The project focuses on Ørestad's environment and sounds – and how different users – both locals and visitors – interact with this.
"These are three highly qualified teams that have chosen to play with artistic and architectural approaches of very different nature. This means that we can hopefully end up with three very distinct approaches, each of which in their own way, will be able to live up to the wishes expressed in the competition program for Byens Scene. I look forward to seeing what they can conjure up for phase two, where everything will now be further developed and concretized," says the expert judge for art Ulrikke Neergaard, director of KØS, Museum of Art in Public Space.
The partnership behind "Byens Scene" consists of Danmarks Radio, Bellagroup, Bellakvarter, Live Nation, CPH City & Port Development, Metroselskabet and Ørestad Innovation City Copenhagen (ØICC). The competition is financed by CPH City & Port Development, the City of Copenhagen and DR. The philanthropic association Realdania supports the competition. Creator Projects are artistic advisors for the partnership.
