Snøhetta shortlisted for new gallery at Kistefos Museum

Kistefos Museum, one of Norway’s leading art and heritage destinations outside Oslo, has announced the architect shortlist for its new standalone gallery. Snøhetta is one of eight international architects selected for the competition shortlist.

Set to open in 2031, the new museum building will serve as a permanent home for the renowned art collection of Kistefos founder, investor, and collector Christen Sveaas. The site, nestled within the museum’s sculpture park and post-industrial campus, offers a stunning natural backdrop of lush forest.

Kistefos Museum launched an invited design competition with a clear vision: to create an original, sustainably designed landmark. The shortlisted teams advancing to the competition’s second stage include both acclaimed and emerging international architects.
