Snøhetta selected for competition to create new urban spaces in Copenhagen
“The music scene is booming in Ørestad, but the city life is sparse”. This can be read in a press release from Ørestad Innovation City Copenhagen, an association that works to promote Ørestad as Copenhagen's green innovation district.
A number of partners have joined forces to create an art and architecture competition, which will result in three urban spaces that integrate art and landscape architecture at the large venues DR Koncerthuset, Bella Arena and Royal Arena on the island of Amager in Copenhagen. Together, the three concert stages form the largest concert area in the Nordic region.
The competition started with a prequalification, where Snøhetta, together with Camille Norment Studio and WSP, has now been selected as one of five teams that will proceed to the idea and project phase. The other teams are:
- Bjarke Ingels Group A/S with Doug Aitken Workshop, NIRAS A/S og VOLCANO A/S
- Cobe A/S with Katharina Grosse
- MASU PLANNING ApS with Studio erde og Studio Julius von Bismarck
- SCHUL Landskabsarkitekter ApS with Judith Hopf, Henrik Plenge Jakobsen og Esben Weile Kjær
The idea phase starts with a site visit in September. The project phase will start in January 2025, and will conclude with a winning team being selected in April 2025.
