PENCIL Worm Hotel Collaboration with the Scholars at New Heights Middle School
Over the past few weeks, Snøhetta US has had the privilege of working alongside the incredible scholars at New Heights Middle School to bring their compost bin worm hotels to life. Through a hands-on weekly build process, we taught them the basics of vermi-composting and construction skills, using tools in our woodshop. In addition to cutting and framing the hotels, the scholars helped design custom handles for their worm hotels giving each one a unique touch.
This project was more than just about sustainability—it was about collaboration, learning, and building something lasting together.
Huge thanks to the dedicated school staff and amazing studio team: Kate Grimes, Leslie Finnie, Mario Mahon, Temi Osanyintolu, Tina Bonacci, Jeff Cheng, & Emily Coyne for making this happen. Here’s to more community-driven projects that plant seeds for the future!
