Far Rockaway Library Breaks Ground

Nov 19, 2018

Queens Public Library celebrated the official groundbreaking of the Far Rockaway Public Library on November 19, 2018. Snøhetta joined local elected officials, Queens Public Library, NYC DDC and NYC EDC to mark the construction milestone.

Located at the prominent intersection of Mott and Central Avenues in Far Rockaway, among the more dynamic, ethnically diverse communities in the borough of Queens, the library has played an important role in the history of this neighborhood as a well-loved community center, even serving as a disaster relief center in 2012 during Hurricane Sandy. The new building will replace the existing 1962 facilities, doubling the amount of space and allowing the library to meet the contemporary needs of its people.
