In between:
Kjetil Trædal Thorsen on Leonard Rickhard
The Astrup Fearnley Museet in Oslo is currently hosting an exhibition called Between Construction and Collapse which showcases the long artistic career of the late Norwegian painter, Leonard Rickhard.
On 4 April, Kjetil Trædal Thorsen, co-founder of Snøhetta, will be giving a talk at the Astrup Fearnley Museet about Rickhard's work and the exhibition. Thorsen will share his reflections on Rickhard's deep attentiveness to the construction of space, which is evident throughout his career.
Rickhard's paintings often feature interior doorways and windows that frame views onto an exterior landscape, while classical perspectival techniques are employed to create the illusion of depth. His work also shows influences from modernist artistic lineages, as the surfaces of several paintings in the exhibition are noticeably built up. Rickhard's attentiveness to space extends beyond the canvas to include the work's frame and even the configuration of an exhibition.
The event is free but requires registration.
